Tea Cup

Inspired by Japanese yunomi (tea cups), these vessels are a warm, tactile way to enjoy oolong, green tea, or any favorite drink. Wood has the wonderful benefit of not getting too hot to hold in your hand.

Each cup is made with a combination of hand carving and lathe turning, using premium sugar maple salvaged from a local veneer mill, wood otherwise destined for the burn pile. The cups are turned while still green (wet), so as they dry they settle into subtly asymmetrical forms, accented by gently undulating carved rims. Finished with a kiln-cured natural oil that performs beautifully in daily use.

Each cup is one of a kind. Within your choice of size and finish, no two are exactly alike. The photos show the general style, but every piece has its own natural variation in grain, form, and carving. When you order, I’ll select a cup from the batch for you, chosen to reflect the same character and quality of the cups pictured.

Care & Use

These cups are made for everyday enjoyment. They can handle cold liquids with ease and hot beverages with some care. Wood responds to heat, humidity, and moisture. Avoid boiling temperatures or letting liquids sit overnight. Tested up to ~170°F. Hand-wash only, do not put in the dishwasher. Best practice is to rinse with warm water soon after use, using minimal soap and avoiding abrasive scrubbers.
